ProQuest Nursing Journals Guide

What is "ProQuest Nursing Journals"?
ProQuest Nursing Journals is the name of a database, or online collection, of magazine and journals in nursing and allied health. More than 400 leading journals are included in the database. Nursing and Nurse Practioner, are just some of the titles included in this collection.

Searching
Enter your search words in the search box. For example, if you were doing research on child development and its relevance to the field of nursing, you might enter "child development AND nursing" (without quotation marks) in the search box.

  • Do you want the articles right away?
"Full-text" means the full content of the article is available online. There is a box to select for "full text articles only." If you check this box, all of the articles you find will be available online to read immediately. If you do not check the full text box, you may find some articles for which only abstracts are available (an abstract is a short summary of an article.) We may have the journal in print in the library. Otherwise, we may need to order the article for you through Interlibrary Loan.
  • Do you need a journal that is "peer reviewed" or "scholarly"?
Scholarly or peer reviewed journals contain articles that have been read and reviewed by a group of experts in the field before being published. To narrow your search to scholarly or peer-reviewed journals only, select the checkbox "scholarly journals, including peer-reviewed".

Publication Search

  • Are you looking for a particular magazine or journal title?
You can search for a publication title by selecting the "Publication Search" tab located at the top of the screen. A new page displays with a box for you to enter the title. Once you select the publication title, you will be able to browse all available issues. If you would like to search for a specific topic within the selected publication, click on the "search within publication" link.

Search Results
Once you conduct a search, a results list will appear. The results are a list of all articles relevant to your search. Each article title is a link to more information about the article and sometimes the entire article. (If you selected full-text, then each article listed is available in its entirety. Not every article in the database is available in full-text.)

  • Viewing an Article
Note that on the results list there are three icons directly below each article link. Each icon tells you in what form the article is available: text with graphics, page image (PDF), or abstract and citation. An abstract is a summary of the article while a citation is the bibliographic information about the article. If you select "Text + graphics ," the document displays in HTML or web format. "Page image - PDF" displays an article exactly as it would in the paper version of the publication. Use this format if an article has pictures or tables you would like to view. Please note that you must have the Adobe Acrobat Reader to view PDF documents.

  • Printing or E-mailing an Article
When you view the full-text of the article, you will have the option to print or e-mail the information. To print or e-mail the article, select the appropriate button from the top of the screen.
