Course Reserves
The reserve collections in the Quincy College Libraries are comprised of current textbooks used for classes. In cooperation with academic departments, the Libraries make their best effort to keep one copy of the current edition of the textbook used in each course. Instructors may also wish to put additional materials on reserve for a particular course or program. Reserve materials may be books from the library collection, personal copies of books, magazines, videos, audiocassettes, CDs, websites, or photocopied handouts. All Reserve materials must be used in the libraries and do not circulate.
For photocopied copies of articles, essays, excerpts etc., it is the responsibility of the instructor to be certain there is an adequate number of copies for the amount of usage. Instructors should keep in mind copyright law when making photocopies to be placed on reserve.
Instructors may link students directly to websites or online journal articles from any of our library's electronic databases through the Library's E-Reserve system. An instructor can place up to three electronic items on reserve during the course of the semester. To make an E-Reserves request, instructors must fill out a Reserve form.
Guidelines for Effective Research Assignments
Well-designed course-related research assignments are a way to introduce students to academic research. Please see our Guidelines for Effective Research Assignments for helpful planning tips.
Library Instruction
Instructors may schedule group instruction for specific research topics or courses, as well as general library orientations at either the Quincy Anselmo Library or the Plymouth Krovitz Library. Librarians provide handouts, and training to students on the library's catalog, online databases, and the internet. Instructors are required to attend library instruction sessions with their students.
If your students will be working a specific research project, we encourage you to give us a copy of the assignment in advance, so that we may tailor the instruction to your students' specific needs.
To set up a time for your class to come in for library instruction, please fill out the online Library Instruction Form or stop by to fill it out in person. No instruction is held during the first two weeks of the Fall & Spring semesters.
The Quincy Anselmo Library has an instructional lab in Room 106. Instructors may request use of this room for their own individual online instruction a maximum of three times per semester. At least forty-eight hours notice must be given and library instruction needs will take precedence.
Multimedia Equipment
A compact disc/audiocassette player, slide projector, portable lcd projector, laptop and dvd player can be checked out by instructors for classroom use. Instructors should contact a librarian no earlier than two days in advance to reserve equipment. Delivery service is not provided and instructors are required to pick up and drop off borrowed equipment at the library. Instructors should contact their academic dean if in need of additional equipment for classroom use or an ongoing need for multimedia equipment exists.
Suggest a Resource
We encourage instructors to suggest books, journals, and videos that would be beneficial for student research. The library staff reviews both the print and online collections on an annual basis, and we ask all interested instructors to take part in this review process.
If you have specific titles you would like to recommend please e-mail us at help@quincycollegelibrary.org or stop by in person. Quincy College's Librarians reserve the right to make the final decision on ordering all materials.
